What is whiplash?
Neck injuries sustained in road traffic accidents that may occur after a front, rear or side collision.
The start of the pain may be delayed for hours or days.

What causes whiplash?

There are two theories:
i.          Quick movements stretch the neck muscles and tear ligaments
and tendons around the spinal cord.
ii.         Fluid pressure builds up as a result of the quick movement,
leading to huge pressures being placed on nerves in the
             spine.

What are the symptoms of whiplash?

Restriction of neck movements and pain radiating to the shoulders, arms and head

What is the treatment of whiplash?

Early mobilisation and avoidance of prolonged use of a cervical collar

How long will it take to get better?

Recovery from a whiplash injury can be slow.  10% of sufferers continue to experience symptoms after 6 months and psychological disturbance is often seen in such people.
