Research

Do you wonder if the wrong questions are answered? Once upon a time, doctors and scientists undertook research because of they wanted to answer some burning questions that directly related to the health of their patients.

I believe that there are still many basic questions that we need to answer and that we can do so looking and observing everyday life. These are questions raised by people outside mainstream medicine

Why has the incidence of breast cancer changed from being a rare disease to one that 1 in 9 will contract? Why is it unknown in China? A new book 'Your life in your hands' by Professor Jane Plant describes the links between breast cancer and dairy products. If you have had breast cancer and either have had a recurrence or are at high risk of recurrence, can visit med4u in London, are willing to provide access to your medical notes and most importantly are prepared to stop dairy products, would you consider joining a study to look at the possibility that dairy products cause breast cancer?

Have you had prostate cancer, is it under observation, again can you fulfil the above conditions and are you willing to give up dairy products?

If you can say yes to all these conditions and are prepared to read the book 'Your life in your hands' by Professor Jane Plant and are prepared to act on it, email me Dr Liz Miller at esm@med4u.co.uk

Does Vitamin C lower cholesterol? do you have a  raised cholesterol? are you prepared to take 3- 4 gms of vitamin C for six months and then have your cholesterol retested?

These are vital questions, for which there is some evidence but no definitive proof. The answers lie within us, and there is no profit in it. For the pharmaceutical industry, these answers could cost them dearly. There are no funds for these research projects - participants will have to pay their own costs, we need several hundred people in each study.

Furthermore many more studies will need doing.  Too often alternative practitioners have good methods but lack scientific theory to back up their results, or worse concoct a theory that is so far fetched that it discredits both them and their results. Frequently complementary and alternative methods are consistent with orthodox theory. For example, many alternative practitioners advocate a diet that avoids processed foods, there are good physiological and scientific reasons for this. It is time to join forces, to concentrate on health and not just avoid illness and live our lives to the full.
